Is Marijuana Use a Sin? – 4/5/2014

Recently, several well-known and rightfully respected men of God were asked the question:Is smoking pot a sin? Yes or no?Every Christian leader on the panel answered in the affirmative. However, was this a consistent and well thought out answer? Should this question be asked in this way? What about alcohol? Would it be appropriate to ask the question:Is drinking alcohol a sin? Yes or no?Or:Is taking narcotics a sin? Yes or no?The issues surrounding addiction have been answered in strongly and fully (on a regular basis) by our hosts as a sin issue related to idolatry. Our host, Jeff Durbin, spent many years as a Chaplain at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. He knows all too well the ravaging effects of drug and alcohol abuse. We are not advocates of drug and alcohol abuse. God commands us to be sober-minded and to worship Him and not idols. However, as Christians, should we advocate ‘for’ the use of opiates and other highly chemically addictive medications and heap scorn upon people who use natural forms of medicine? The panelists briefly mentioned the medicinal uses of marijuana. Did they do so consistently with the rest of their answer? What about the host of clinical uses and benefits of marijuana? What about the cancer patient? What about the person with glaucoma? What about the HIV patient? What about the person with a seizure disorder? This forces the question: Is it a sin for to smoke marijuana or not?Listen in to this very informative episode of Apologia Radio where we offer an answer that forces us to attempt to think more biblically and consistently on the issue of marijuana. We also discuss the issues surrounding gun control legislation. We also talk about bacon.
