Jesus gives us the water that leads to everlasting life. According to John’s beloved disciple, in only a few chapters, Jesus is the source and fulfillment of our most fundamental needs. In the last chapter, we learned that Jesus is Who we must look to if we are seeking healing from our death. He is Who we look upon and believe in to be freed from our guilt and condemnation.
Now, in chapter 4, we receive this inspired Word from God that tells us that the central need we have (water) is only ultimately satisfied in the One Who gives living water that bubbles up in us leading to life eternal. We will live forever. Because of the living water He provides.
His provision is not temporal. What He provides is forever. It will never be destroyed. It will continue without an end. We will be satisfied in Him.
